GUIDELINES FOR USE IN THE WORKPLACE:
Protective ear muffs effectively shield the operator from harmful noise by decreasing sound levels measured in decibels, established by the SNR parameter. The upper limit for an 8-hour workday is set at 85 dB. If the average noise levels in your workplace exceed this threshold, it's crucial to select ear muffs with an SNR rating that can lower the noise level to 85 dB or below. For instance, wearing earmuffs with an SNR rating of 32 in a work environment with continuous noise of 116 dB would effectively reduce the noise to 84 dB.
When earmuffs are worn for extended periods, attention should be given to design features that enhance comfort. The adequately wide sealing cushions, made from skin-friendly materials, should cover the entire ear. Additionally, the soft padding of the headband alleviates pressure on the top of the head. The pressure with which the ear cups adhere to the head influences not only comfort but also the effectiveness of noise attenuation, making it essential to choose ear cups with a properly selected SNR rating rather than the highest available.
