DEFINITIONS
IR Radiation - Every object emits infrared radiation according to its temperature. The infrared thermometer uses optics to focus this radiation onto a sensor, which converts it into heat and then into electrical energy. This energy value is then converted into a temperature reading, taking no longer than 0.5 seconds in YATO pyrometers.
Emissivity - This parameter determines an object's ability to emit thermal radiation. Most organic, painted, and oxidized materials have an emissivity of 0.95, the factory setting. For materials like lead or aluminum with lower emissivity, the parameter should be adjusted accordingly for accurate measurements. Emissivity tables can be found in scientific literature or online.
Low and High Temperature Alarm - This function is useful for locating thermal bridges in cold weather. Measure the center temperature of a wall to establish a reference point and set the low temperature alarm a few degrees lower. Measure the suspected areas of thermal bridging, such as wall joints or window frames. An audible alarm and display indicator will activate if the temperature drops below the set threshold.
Measurement Accuracy - YATO pyrometers ensure high measurement accuracy and repeatability, but various factors such as ambient humidity and temperature may influence it. The manufacturer suggests a possible measurement error of ±1.5°C in ambient temperatures ranging from 0°C to 40°C when measuring surface temperatures above 0°C. Thus, a reading of 100°C may typically range from 101.5°C to 98.5°C.
