Description:

The YATO clamp meter model YT-730934 is a versatile tool designed for both basic and advanced electrical measurements. This meter is equipped with measuring clamps that enable you to measure both DC and AC current through a single wire using a built-in Hall sensor. The measurement process does not require disconnecting the circuit or power source, allowing for measurements of much higher currents than traditional electric meters. The probe leads are insulated with flexible silicone that can withstand high temperatures.

Note: Meters capable of measuring DC current, including the YT-730934, utilize a Hall sensor to measure magnetic field strength. Since the Earth's magnetic field exists naturally, the readings from the DC current meter may not be zero. Before measuring DC current, position the meter close to the wire under test, press the REL button to zero it, then clamp it onto the wire and read the result.

Measurement accuracies:

For example, to determine accuracy for AC current measurement at a reading of 30 A:

  • The measurement accuracy of the YT-730934 in this range is: ±(2.0% + 30), with a resolution of 0.01 A
  • Formula for calculating the measurement error: (measurement result x 2%) + 30 x resolution
  • Calculation: (30 x 2%) + (30 x 0.01) = 0.6 + 0.3 = 0.90 A

The actual measurement result, including error, for 30 A = 30 ± 0.90 A.

  • Result including measurement error for AC voltage: 235 V = 235 ± 2.65 V
  • Result including measurement error for DC voltage: 12 V = 12 ± 0.09 V

Built-in functions:

  • TRUE RMS - This function shows the true RMS value of AC voltage/current, providing accurate readings for both sinusoidal and distorted waveforms, making it essential for applications involving pulse power supplies, motor drives, HVAC installations, etc.
  • VlowZ - Measures AC and DC voltage in low impedance mode. This feature helps eliminate "ghost voltage," which can be misleading in diagnosing electric circuits.
  • NCV - Non-contact AC voltage detection using inductive methods, which allows the meter to sense voltage in insulated wires and identify phase wires.
  • AUTO - Automatic range adjustment for measurement. This setting allows the meter to select the optimal range automatically, simplifying operation.
  • DATA HOLD - Retains the current measurement value on the display for convenience.
  • PEAK HOLD - Preserves the highest measured value for reference.
  • INRUSH - Measures inrush current to capture starting currents within 100 ms of device startup.
  • REL - Relative value function to zero the meter’s readings, essential for DC current measurements.

Warning!

Current measurements using clamp meters should be done on a single wire or cable. Clamping around a multi-conductor cable without isolating one conductor may result in inaccurate readings or indicate zero current flow.
